5 things that make me a happy bee 2

I gain positive energy when I'm constantly reminded on the little things which make my day so peaceful yet blissful. :) It's not hard at all to find things that will lift up my mood every day, simply because there are just so many events taking place in every second, every minute, and every hour. Thus, I decided to make positive writing as a habit and share the happiness around.

July had been a great month, both leisurely and academically. I tried to manage my leisure time wisely to make sure that I did not rot at home for some meaningless activities only. It's always about achieving the balance between soul and body to me, and this appears to be a continuous learning process in my life.

1. We revisited Deep Cove to picnic with friends in mid July. Learning from the last lesson, we decided to bus this time to eliminate the possibility of not getting a parking space. Deep Cove is my new favourite because it is spacious, less crowded, and it gathers all sorts of outdoor activities in one place (hiking, picnic, kayak/paddleboard, sightseing)

Highlight of the day fell on the 4 brave girls who took up the challenge to hike for 2 hours with sandals. It was absolutely unintended but hiking was a spontaneous idea we came up with upon arrival, and we didn't want to let go the chance of hiking the Baden Powell Trail. So there you go, challenge accepted!

I had to say, it was crazy but quite fun at the same time, because we saw some people doing the same thing along our journey. But I felt worth it after watching the view on top. It was simply spectacular and breath taking.

Feels so good getting close to the Mother Nature once in a while.

2. Shopping for cheap deals has always been my hobby because I'm not a branded person. I prefer getting various clothing styles for the same price.

I can't keep things to myself when it comes to getting cheap deals,  feel lacking for not sharing my achievement :P
I was doing minor shopping for my Hawaii trip today because I was short of sandals. Every time when it comes to buying accessories, Adrene is my first place to go because of its price, wide variety and sizes along with acceptable product quality. I knew this place wouldn't disappoint me, got 2 sandals and 1 beach bag for $15. No Frills should consider sharing its motto with Adrene. Seriously, such a price can't be beat, even for online shopping!

2 phone cases for $8, thanks to ebay!

3. Apart for all the social activities, I didn't forget to fork out some time for beneficial thing. Company sent me to first aid training last Saturday. It was an 8-hour course, primarily teaching basic skills to help an injured person at first hand.

I used to join Red Crescent Society when I was in high school, and attending this course kinda made me reminiscing those time when my friends and I would go for extra-curricular activities on Saturday to learn all sort of first aid skills, let alone the nasty marching session under the uber UV-poisonous sun lol. Can't believe that was 7 years ago! T_T

4. Went back to UBC for paid studies, and I took this opportunity walking around my former school to witness the changes since I left school. So my tuition fee was spent on a new fountain, student union building 2 and other endless constructions. Nowonder I heard a new motto coined to UBC- 'a place of construction' instead of 'a place of mind'. Based on my observation, it can't be a false statement at all lol.

Anyway, July is the rose-blossoming season :), as you can see in the pictures already. Although I'm not fond of flowers, seeing the garden being coated with multi colours still lifts up my mood.

5.  July was also the month of catching up with good friends and chit chat till the end of the day :). I'm glad we took advantage of the good weather and spent some time at the beach, since I didn't really get to step foot on the beach this summer.

Lovely Xin also brought me to a new cafe- Panda Cafe, which incorporates reading manga and eating in one place. Food was average there, but the quiet atmosphere and private rooms catered for individual gatherings made up for it. :) Definitely a good chit-chatting place and an ideal hangout place for Otaku.

With the end of July, I shall welcome the eighth month of 2013 in a slightly exciting tone :) Hawaii, I'm coming!!!

Busy bee flying through April

April is such a busy month for me, and I'll tell you why in a bit.

Friend's friend owns a beauty studio and her apprentice is looking for some models to practice on her eyelash extension skills, so I honorably agreed to become the white mice. After all,  eyelash extension and refills for free do sound like a good deal to me and I have nothing to lose even though it doesn't out great because I don't pay a dime for this beauty service. In return of the generous offer, I think this deal deserves a full blog post so I will have a long write up about this next month! Despite the inconvenience due to extremely cautious handling on the eye lashes, I can also feel the breeze of having these long eye lashes because I can literally throw my mascara into dustbin with these falsies, and my co-worker says I look like a doll even without make up :)

I was badly craving for Malaysian food last week and kept looking for all sorts of recipes to replicate Malaysian food here. Simultaneously, I also wanted to learn more Malaysian cuisine to expose Kareshi with more of it as a way of preparing him for the first visit to my homeland in future. Out of all dishes, I think Nasi Lemak really represents our food variety well and the ingredients can be easily found here. So here it goes, here's my version of Nasi Lemak served with coconut milk rice and rendang chicken. I'm glad that Kareshi loves the spiciness of this dish and gladly accepting the different food culture in an open way.

Boss sponsored me to a food flavouring workshop because she understands and supports my interest in food flavouring. I was so excited for the opportunity given to me because I believe that this workshop will help me in paving my route to food business in future. The workshop was a joint effort between BCFT and Metarom, a Canadian-based flavouring house and sets foot in many countries including the United States, Australia, Europe and North Africa. The workshop didn't disappoint me at all as I had the chance to smell and guess approximately 20 different scents made out of chemical molecules to mimic several natural-occurring flavours. Sometimes I have to admit that food chemistry is unbelievably powerful and amazing in changing the food industry technologically. Best of all, the 3-hour workshop enabled me to feel like a student again and attend lecture with some other professionals in the industry. I'm truly blessed and I know that.

On the side note, I also enjoyed free flow of Starbucks tea and coffee throughout the workshop. OOO I really can't live without tea!

Upon ending this post, I'm off to Seattle with Kareshi tomorrow. =) Shall bring back more blog-worthy pictures during this getaway trip.

U.S fashion post

I don’t consider myself as a super fashionable person despite my love for clothes shopping, thus the lack of fashion posts throughout my blogging life. However, I realize that there are numerous full-length body shots during my U.S trip, so I decided to make my first ever fashion post here.

Mk says: ‘Fart loud in fashion’, so I really want to fart out my confidence here by showing what I love to wear.

However, I have my own set of preferences when it comes to fashion. It doesn’t matter if people disapprove my styles, because I have my own set of preferences when it comes to fashion and believing in myself makes me proud and happy. All my friends can’t bear with my love for floral-printed and lacey clothes/short pants because half of my wardrobe is about them! The other half of my closet is filled with casual and simple clothes to blend with the floralness. My life principle has come to act on my fashion styles as well, because I am more fond of a colourful life over a dull and mysterious one, which explains well for my floral prints fever. They make me look cheerful, youthful, while bringing up the feminine side of me.

Short jumpsuits are my other love because they are really convenient and trendy. Dress up in one piece and you’re all set to go! This really matches well with my laziness. Most importantly, they have excellent concealing effect- longer legs and smaller butt, which is the perfect combo for me!!

However, my summer clothing is more vibrant than my winter clothing, simply because of the weather. Once I put the sweater on, you barely see what I wear inside, and that is VERY demotivating. On top of that, the cold weather is devastating enough to make me think less about the fashion and more about the warmth of clothes.

I believe my fashion preference also comes from my consideration about suitable fashion styles on me. I pick the styles which I think will look good on me amongst the sea of trendy clothes every year and I just work around them. I don’t like to splurge big bucks on a single look, so I spread out my budget wisely on various items that I can mix and match to come out with different styles. Wearing clothes that suit your body and image are very important, and that’s one of the critical fashion advices I adhere to.

=) Wear what you love, and enjoy what you wear.

*Thank you MK for the inspiration.*

Looking like a doll for the first time

I was arranging my folders and accidentally bumped into these camwhore pictures I took after my sister's wedding last year.

I thought it was a total waste to not take any picture with nice make up and hairdo, since there's no way that I can look like that with my current make-up skills.I only prioritize on thick eyeliner and eye shadow because of the single eyelid I possess, eye make up becomes the key-determining step in defining my look. Yet my guy friends still encourage me to put on fake eyelashes because they are curious with my heavy make-up look.

Although I feel complimented and I'm certainly glad that people perceive it as natural looking, this is definitely not a light make up in my opinion.Seriously, are you kidding me? This is considered light make up?

2 years ago, my friend said I looked like Wondergirl's Sohee, and now, I'm looking like Kara's Goo Hara to some people. One conclusion I can draw from this observation is that:

Single-eyelid girls can rock like those who have double eyelids, so don't even bother doing plastic surgery already! Pay more attention to your make up skills and skin condition instead!

Eyelash extension

So, I tried on eyelash extension for the first time in my life. Those people who’ve known me well should know that I’m not an entirely up-to-date person when it comes to girly things because there are just so many new services and things creeping into our daily lives, far more than I can handle! Therefore, I won’t be aware of the new services/treatments available in town for beautification purpose but I’d rather stick to the few areas that I usually keep an eye on to beautify myself, like fashion and make up which are enough to eat up my time.

Gah, I’ve nobody to blame but myself, I’m just lazy!

My sister gave me this coupon for eyelash extension that she bought earlier and I thought I would just give it a try since it’s free. Why not? Ugly also for a while only mah~~~~~~~~

Surprisingly, eyelash extension is absolutely painless because all I had to do was just closing my eyes throughout the process, just so that the beautician could put the eyelash on my eyelash strand by strand. The result was surely effective as I could now feel the burden on my eyes because of the new members. Also, my eyes look dolly all the time, as if I had put on eyeliner because of those black eyelash strands, so I'd say that the effect is quite obvious.

The only flaw is just the maintenance part, since the fake lashes can’t come in contact with water. That means…… I’ve to change my habit in splashing water on my face while I wash it and use cotton pad and wipe off the foam/milk carefully. Ah, that is so annoying! I just hope that my face won’t be like a strawberry after all, I want my taufu face all the time okay!

But...but...but... I can now go to Seoul looking pretty and spending less time to draw eyeliner. Hahaha, just stay tuned for my new batch of photos if you want to take a deeper look on my eyes, comes with nice sceneries summore, see I’m so humble! *joking joking* I shall blog once more before I leave, adios!
