Special identity

2013 is my fifth year in this city. I always have a special feeling for this city due to my special identity. I’m too old to be called a tourist, too young to be called a local, such a complexion has put me into the grey zone. I studied and graduated here, step on its land, breathe its air everyday, yet I can’t give you a solid and facts-based answer when you ask me: What do you know about Canadian history?

I know good high tea places and where to get cheap groceries, but simultaneously there are wonders floating on my mind all the time. Why is the driver seat on the left but not right? Why do they say taro instead of yam? There are just so many ‘W-H-Y’s’ that I need to get used to.

Odd to say, Vancouver is a familiar yet strange place to me as I am still undergoing my learning process about this city everyday even after 5 years. That explains the reason I like to be a tourist sometimes and do what the tourists do, because this allows me to explore many new parts of the city and add a new feeling to it, and absorb the culture with my own sight and soul osmotically.

温哥华对我来说,就是这么一个特别的存在。
