5 things that make me a happy bee.

1. Boy totally understands my Pooh crave and he got me Pooh earphones 2 weeks ago. It's madly cute that I decided to leave it unopened to avoid any pollution and damage to it. I know, I know that I totally defeat the purpose of him buying this cutie to me, but I really treasure it so much that I don't want it to get dirty, not even a bit. ~_~ Help me with my dilemma please!

2. Round-trip ticket to Hawaii at the end of August. Hola, after so much of waiting, I'm finally going to step foot on my dream paradise, and it all happens within a few magical clicks. I'm so glad that I still keep up with the 'die die also want to go travel' spirit and I still value traveling as an important passion of mine and make it happen every year.

3. I'm a small eater but a little bit of snacks always lift up my day. I was grocery shopping for some Japanese snacks at a konbiniya today and I saw something sparkling ( well to me it was sparkling) at the shelf. I just couldn't stop screaming ( lol in heart of course) when I saw Tohato matcha flavour sitting nicely, waiting to come home with me tee hee~~~ Ah I will always love you, Tohato!

4. Had a lovely walk with Kareshi on a Sunday and it was nothing more than feeling blissful. We never really had a walk in a while because we are either busy or lazy to go out. But I feel that staying outdoor, enjoying relaxing talk are one of the best ways to gain the intimacy between couple. Yes, otaku needs to go out and breathe in fresh air once in a while too, I'm glad that he recognizes the importance of doing this.

5. Went to my co-worker's son's birthday bash at New Westminster and I bumped into this super artistic tree which is growing upside down. It looks like a girl doing yoga pose-headstand to me, but some said it looks like a hula dancer waving her dress. Funny how a tree appearance can be interpreted in so many ways, but that again proves to me that humans can be very creative creatures at times.

Anyway, I've reached the age of attending birthday parties of my friends' children, that is such a GAH moment. I can sniff the arrival of my aging process already -_-.

Tipping culture

I came across a post about tipping culture today and I couldn't agree more on some points Cheesie stated.

Tip of the day

I come from a country where tipping is not a norm, so the total amount stated on my bill is all I have to pay. It's only until I came to Vancouver 5 years ago, I started accepting the tipping culture and practise on it to conform to the social norm of paying 10-15% extra as a sign of gratitude to the servers.

Not that I hate tipping, I don't mind tipping for a DECENT service but not for services which I dislike. I'll be very pissed off to tip for a bad service, because I can't convince myself to fork out more money to pay waiter/waitress who delays my order, refills my tea after 30 minutes, or simply just picks up my dishes when I'm not done with my meal without asking me.

Especially since I started working, I absolute hate the idea of tipping workers who don't deserve the tip. I work in an environment where salary may not be proportionate to work performance. Sometimes I have to work extra without getting more pay.But that's not something I should complain about because the moment I take up my job, I should take into account on all the 'untold' duties I'm responsible of occasionally, and I believe that such a situation does not happen to me solely but many people are on the same boat as well. I do what I'm told to do because I'm at this job position, and if I can't take it then I just leave,  I don't chase after my boss to pay me extra for every single duty that is beyond my job scope. Hence, the same work ethnic should ideally be applied in the food service industry as well with the same level of professionalism. You don't ask for more money from people who have already contributed to your living directly, but you find out the reason why people tip you less than usual. To me, it's either you work harder and show more professionalism to earn your customers' heart monetarily, or just leave and get another job which offers you a better pay.

It's not really about me lacking the monetary generosity towards these people, but I don't like paying people monetarily for what they don't deserve for. I especially dislike those who chase after customers for not leaving ENOUGH tips for them, that is just not professionally appropriate to me.  It's not like I did not pay for my meal after all, why should I pay more ON TOP of my bill after receiving a below average service?

Having said that, I'm only referring this opinion to bad service. But if I was given a choice, I'd still prefer that all kinds of costs are incorporated in the selling price and I'll just pay for ONE price. I think that saves a lot of discomforts and unnecessary arguments between customers and food service providers.

Good fall

Autumn has slipped away silently.

I spent the last few days of autumn by visiting a special cafe and immersing myself into the beauty of coffee art. I also had in-depth conversations with people whom I feel comfortable talking to while taking the last opportunity to capture the last few moments of falling leaves.Hmm, talk is cheap but it's very soul-calming.

I'm starting to get used to the feeling of sending something away optimistically, because every good bye also marks a new hello at the same time. It was a good fall to me, with the usual calm yet a little surprises. Therefore, I'm wishing for a good winter as well, a good December to end my epic year.

See you again next year, Mr.Autumn!

今天心情烂透了,不过没关系,我相信我自恋一点,多听点歌,睡个好觉就会没事的。 嗯,就这样决定了,希望大家周末过得愉快!

Romantic grasses

I told my friend that grasses in this photo looked very romantic visually. Lian then came up with an interesting question:

“What do you mean by romantic grasses?”

Well, the only logical answer that I could think of was probably their wavy figure and soft colour which made me feel so. But don’t you guys think that this plant looks very appealing and it’s usually appearing in those romantic scenes of many love songs’ MVs?

Anyway, I squeezed myself into this bunch of sexy creatures and had a taste of the romantic feeling I’ve long imagined. I’ve always wanted to experience the feeling of being surrounded by a sea of flowers or simply any plants that have calming effect, and I’m glad that my wish was being heard in this trip. I like how every picture reminds me of the little happenings in every trip, that's perhaps the way I value my vacation.

So there goes this photo, please join me and start appreciating these romantic grasses as well. =D

Waiting for my day to come.

I'm back to the mapleland after 3.5 months of pure fun and family time at home, and I'm prepared to do what I should do at this period of time, for the one last time until I put on the square hat. I consider next year's graduation as a new milestone for me to embark on a new journey and truly pursue my dream.I've always been doing what I like all the time, but to live a life out of pure passion is the life that I'm really seeking for . I told a few people about my dream, although it seems to be unpractical to many other people, I believe it's not something that's out of reach. Even if it was, I would find out the answer myself instead of allowing other people to let me down by telling me that I can't.

I can, when I really want to, so it's really a matter of determination in my opinion.

Academic performance is my main focus now and I'm surprised by my last year's performance with a 6% increase in my average. That has injected a strong confidence in me and I seek for a better performance this year to mark a good ending of my 18 years of education. Come to think of it, 3 years of uni just passed by in a blink of eye and I can't really recall most of the lecture materials that I've learned in these years. Seriously, I wonder if my total memory for the materials learned would sum up to a 30%? That really sounds like an epic fail considering the enormous effort I had put in every term.

But... I'll still wait for the day of honor and pride to come, when I can finally tell my parents:

'Dad and mom, I've finally reached the finishing line! Thank you for your tremendous support and love.' =) I know that day will come. And I know that my day will come too. Let's all work hard for what we yearn for.

Working hard as always

34987_427135777200_556607200_5140811_2313523_n

Took this on the last day of February, Eu and I were too excited about the snow. I really love this photo because it looks very artistic and poetic, like I was longing for something when I was just pretending. It’s sad to note that my very own photographer is leaving Vancouver soon, and that would mean lesser photo shooting sessions since she’s the best when it comes to capturing different sides of me. She’s just the best!!

Came across with this song a few months back and I really like it, it resembles my past in some ways.

I’m glad that I’ve drawn myself to happiness after 1.5 years of effort. It’s not just about individual effort and I can’t thank enough for those who have walked me through the dark, since it wasn’t something that I could take it easily and wipe off instantly. These hands are so precious because they have taught me that it’s okay to have false belief and tumble down, but never inhibit yourself from a brighter future and better life. Physical self is now recovered despite of the scar, but I’m still happy with the rejuvenated life and finally developed the courage to draw a line between things I should and should not associate with.

每一道傷痕都是紀念自己勇敢的印記。
在愛情裡,依然憧憬,繼續夢想,幸福其實離我們很近。

Close chapter officially. I will continue to work hard. =)

Something to be experimented.

I just watched a video recently, it says:

无论自己发生什么事,都要对自己说:这是正常的
不要问:为什么我那么倒霉?

I think this applies a lot in our lives too. My cousin, Jovial, always asks us to be grateful with what we have, because your inner self will reflect your outer self and therefore your life. Instead of using negative phrases like, “I won’t”, “I can’t”, “I’ll try my best”, it’ll be more encouraging to say "I will", "I shall",and " I'll do my best". The positivity in these latter sentences give you more strength.

The last thing she says is to tell yourself that you’re good for 3 times a day.It makes you feel good about yourself, besides boosting up your confidence level.

“我很好,我很好,我很好.”
“我很勇敢,我很勇敢,我很勇敢.”
“我可以做到,我可以做到,我可以做到."

Does it really help? Let me experiment this and I’ll come back to you after a month.

March 01, 2010

Should I?

I've been considering on student exchange programme for my third year study. For many reasons, I think it's definitely a good opportunity for all the things that I haven't experienced before.

Maybe it's a good time to leave, and explore another new land. I think it'll be a good experience.

I'm struggling again. Should I go for it or not?

February 17, 2010

The unwanted souvenirs.

When I told my friend that I get minor injury weekly on average; she laughed at me and said:

太扯了吧!

It may sound like I’m exaggerating, but I’m seriously not joking (Uso ja nai ne!) .I always get cuts without noticing them and they suddenly appear out of nowhere. There are already 3 ‘accidents’ happened in these 3 months which left their footprints on both of my hands.

Firstly, I cut my right hand while I was packing for my NY trip. My hand slid across the metal bed frame and it started bleeding.
013

Coming to a new year, I thought things might change to be better. But looks like the trend went on and I burnt my hand while doing experiment in chem lab. My right little finger (pinky) accidentally touched the hot plate which was turned on with full blast.

There you go, my first scar of the year.
016

And then I was so excited to experiment on Chicken Katsu Don yesterday, but my left ring finger got a ‘stamp’ as a souvenir again. I cut my finger while slicing the brown onion.

I guess this one is the worst because blood was actually dripping and the blood stained on my new bed sheet while I was looking for a plaster.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, my new bed sheet!

003

The Chicken Katsu Don was a success, but there was undoubtedly a price for it.

Housemate Wei Xin said: You must be missing me when you were cutting the ingredients.
Housemate Eugenia JJ said: Pui Mun arr Pui Mun, stop hurting yourself can annot?

Aww, I don’t want to be physically injured if I could. There are enough footprints left all over my body parts already. It’s my bad for being so careless and causes my hands to be so ugly now. Can anyone please introduce me some scar-removing products/methods to get rid of these scars?

So, my mission 1 in 2010 will be : Be more careful and stop hurting myself already.

January 30, 2010

Why white hair and insomnia?

These 2 things upset me.

Why would I roll on the bed for 3 hours few days ago, because I drank milk tea at night. >_<

I saw the first ever strip of white hair on my head last week, and why is this happening? >_<

I don’t know why. But I’m already 21 years old, I’m not a kid anymore, it’s not like you give me a cotton candy and I will stay happy for the whole day.

I want to be honest to myself this time.
I don’t want to smile and pretend that I’m good all the time.
I feel like running non-stop until I’m tired and then get a good sleep.
I want to squad down and laugh in the middle of the road as though I’m constipated.

Tell me, this is not me. Because I thought my life was very organized.

Tell me, this is just a phase that I need to walk through. So, give me some time to figure out the problems and handle them properly.

So white hair don’t grow anymore, ok?

Beard Papa's

006

It feels so great when you have been looking for a thing for so long with so much effort,

and then it appears in front of you one day effortlessly.

Yeap, that’s Beard Papa’s, I finally found the Beard Papa’s store here. The other day when I was walking at Downtown, I was so excited when I saw one, but unfortunately it was under renovation.

Perhaps some things are not meant to be and can’t be forced, it’ll come when the right time kicks in, if not just let go the rest.

=) Maybe my fate with Beard Papa’s is the same too.

Mango and Green Tea cream puff light up my day again.

Still surviving in the midst of assignments and midterms flood

1. I had a peaceful birthday this year, which I will blog about it in details. But I’m really grateful for all the texts, facebook wallposts, e-mails, presents, calls, poem, and everything you guys did to make me feel special on 15th October. I rceived an overwhelming 50 wishes this year, and I was really surprised by that. 50 may not be a significant for some of you, but 50 wishes from friends who are all over the world now make me feel that I’m remembered and missed at that very moment, and it’s good enough to know that.

Thank you very much for that. I’m officially 20 now!!

2. The elder brother of the two little Kenn Kenn (my twin nephews) knows how to address people now. My mom says he’s very cheeky nowadays, knows how to call “ popo”, “yiyi”, “mama” and even knows how to reject something by saying “ ng moi”. How I wished I could be just be there to hear that and kiss them on their face.
* dreaming*

3. I went to a dairy farm on my birthday, and it really was a special experience despite of the unpleasant smell all around the farm, I discovered something interesting about the milk production. More updates about this later.

4. I got to know a very cute Japanese who's very shy, till I don't know if it's my problem or his problem. And he's in my faculty too, hopefully we'll become better friends.

Till then, I'll be back really soon, when I tick-off everything from the assignment list for this week. Stay tuned.

Feelings that are beyond description

Have you been through a moment like this?

You feel the unhappiness, but you know pretending is the best way to liberate the depression.

So silence takes place.

You feel the anger, but you know you'll be guilty at the end of the day, by throwing a tanthrum at someone else.

So silence takes place.

You feel the stress, but so does everyone else.

So silence takes place.

The worst thing that happens is to feel the sea of emotions flowing through my mind, but I can't lie to myself and say 'it's going to be okay' anymore.

So you decided to break the silence, but then you're always back to your usual role, and start listening stories of theirs. You can't make it for yourself, but you can benefit the others. So you listen.

Listen to their thank you. They say you're a good friend. They say you're a good listener.

They say you're obedient. They say you're so determined.

And then some start the fire, saying that they're an outsider of your life, for hiding your problems behind the curtains. They say, you don't share your opinions to them. It sounds like being speechless is a sin, not being able to meet me is a fault.

Someone says: It's like you don't need me, I'm an outsider of your life.
I know you won't tell the truth, because you always try not to hurt the others.

And this someone, is just a new friend I've met, not someone who's suitable for saying things like that.

For the first time, I feel scared, as though all sirens are turned on, leaving me with no way to handle it.What can I do to make him understand that, I like my current life? That the problem does not fall on him, but my preference to stick with my life, because he can't change my mind?

Also, for the first time, I think scoring an 80 in exams is easier than turning down people.

My method was efficient to all people before him,and they all understood it and managed to live even better life after me.

What can I do?

*p/s:Friends, don't be sensitive here, the post only refers to a few people, especially to a person. So don't tag yourself for it, if you think you're darn right for what you've been doing all these while.*

Japanese hate iPhone

So I recently stumbled upon the article on'Why the Japanese hate the iPhone'.

Source:http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2009/02/why-the-iphone/

Some of you must be thinking, what the heck??? Many of us are cracking our heads to get one, while it becomes so cheap in Japan, some even for free (bond to a contract).

And what's more agitating is that:

Cellphones are also more of a fashion accessory in Japan than in the United States, according to Daiji Hirata, chief financial officer of News2u Corporation and creator of Japan’s first wireless LAN, who spoke to Wired.com in June 2008.

So that would suggest that in Japan, carrying around an iPhone — a nearly year-old handset compared to the very latest Japanese cellphones — could make you look pretty lame.

It came no surprise to me after witnessing some of the high-end phones in Japan, which are way more 'canggih' than I could have imagined it, as a phone.

Japanese phones have all it takes to become a superior phone, you know I'm not joking right?

Let me show you my point.

Appealing designs and colours.

(Source:http://www.itechnews.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/softbank-sharp-dm002sh-disney-cinderella-phone.jpg)

Phone that provides an 8 Megapixel camera.

Not to mention the chips inserted into some phones to be used as debit cards and train passes.

(Source:Credit to:http://analytica1st.com/analytica1st/img/mobile_suica.jpg)

From what I learnt during my Japan trip, Japanese are fond of clamshell phones (flip phones) than flat phones since flipping the phone is one of the Japanese girls' hobbies from what I see. Seriously, I've seen them flipping, closing, then flip again, close again on the train (Densha) eventhough the phone is not vibrating or ringing, so I assume they must be liking this action in order to do it so frequently.

I can even understand why 90% of them don't use MSN or e-mail, that's because phone is their everything, without phone they are nothing.Let alone the texting and calling services, Japanese use their phones to watch TV, online, read novel, pay for subway fares, buy from convenient store.

PHONE IS REALLY THEIR EVERYTHING.

I have used a Japanese phone before, and I pretty much understand how impressive the phone is, with the high-end colour display, super clear camera even if it's just a 3.2 Megapixel phone, and not to mention its design and colour. It makes you feel good about what you have, and can't stop flipping the phone like the Japanese girls do.(=P Opps)

Okay I'm exaggerating on that, but that's how amazing their phones are.

Also, there's one thing that keeps me wondering is that,

How come the Japanese phone makers can come up with a phone with so many unique colours while the other makers can't?

(Source:http://www.cameraphonesplaza.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/sony-ericsson-s001-another-cell-phone-for-japan-03.jpg)

Why though?

But with all these already-advanced-mobile-phones-technologies,really, who needs an iPhone in Japan?

I wouldn't need one.

Opps.Forgot to mention, if I were in Japan.

The pain of packing

Term 2 lectures have officialy tied a knot. I handed in my last report on Wednesday, feeling extremely relieved with all the things that have strecthed me this far.

Although it gives me excuses to slack, I promise myself not to repeat last term’s mistake. ‘Know my playing limits.’ I would say. So, I’ve roughly planned my schedule for both outings and revision times. I have a lot of plans in mind, but uncertain of those which will work out before I leave. The last two activities I’m going to do before I head back will be visiting the Cherry Blossom Festival and biking at Stanley Park. It’s getting sunnier in Vancouver nowadays, I can feel the cool breeze kissing my face everyday, and the warm sun shines on my head, what a blissful feeling that could be!

And yes, I’ve also started packing my stuff and separated those to be put into summer storage and those to bring back. It’s a long long process to be honest, I hate packing things because I spend so much time putting them into luggage or box neatly, and it only takes half of the packing time to unpack it. The only thought I have everyday is to ‘CLEAN CLEAN THROW’ which reminds me very much of the ‘ELIMINATE,ELIMINATE,ELIMINATE’ scene in Death Note when Mikami has gone mad. Seriously, I’ve to get rid of the unnecessary stuff to get sufficient space to pack other things.

Conspicuously,I'm going to have big time packing.

Ohhh, Pui Mun, good luck packing !

Pleasures derived from Chemistry lecture and lab

So, my Chem professor-Dr.Wasell shared an Irish joke with us before he started the lecture in conjunction with the St.Patrick's Day.

'Shayne had been drinking at his local pub all day and most of the
night.

Mick, the bartender says, "You'll not be drinking anymore tonight,
Shayne".

Shayne replies "OK Mick, I'll be on my way then." Shayne spins around
on his stool and steps off. He falls flat on his face. "Shite" he
says and pulls himself up by the stool and dusts himself off.

He takes a step towards the door and falls flat on his face. He looks
to the doorway and thinks to himself that if he can just get to the
door and get some fresh air he'll be fine. He belly crawls to the door
and shimmies up the doorframe. He sticks his head outside and takes a
deep breath of fresh air, feels much better and takes a step out onto
the sidewalk.

He falls flat on his face.

"I'm fockin' focked," he says. He can see his house just a few doors
down, and crawls to the door and shimmies up the doorframe, opens the
door and shimmies inside. He takes a look up the stairs and says "No
fockin' way".

He crawls up the stairs to his bedroom door and says "I can make it
to the bed." He takes a step into the room and falls flat on his face.

He says "Fock it" and falls into bed.

The next morning, his wife, Mary, comes into the room carrying a cup
of coffee and says, "Get up Shayne. Did you have a bit to drink last
night?".

Shayne says, "I did Mary. I was fockin' p!ssed. But how'd you know?"

"Mick called. You left your wheelchair at the pub again!" '

I think, it was my first time LOL-ed in a Chem class. Seriously, I enjoy Dr.Wasell's classes not only because of his patient teaching, but very often he throws in his own ideas onto his lectures, be it some extra information or just some random jokes which I find it delightful. I still remember when he started introducing himself on the first lecture ,he showed us the slides of his educational background, student's life and even his family. He's a British who has migrated to Canada after getting married with a Canadian. Somehow, he's a British with pure American accent, I can barely sense any Britishness in him. Friendly and cute professor who's in his 50-6o's, doesn't mind eating his slice of pizza while walking, he's just so down-to-earth and makes me feel approachable.I guess, he's the reason why I've been able to do well in my first-year Chemistry.

Also,I finished off my last Chem lab today. It was quite enjoyable as we prepared Azo dyes for clothes and colouring for plastics.

My lab partner then shared with me an interesting food today.

She gave me a small piece of Greentea Kitkat which her friend got it from the Japan airlines.

It gives Kitkat a whole new refreshing taste, the taste is not even near to the regular ones because the milk filling and coating are all in green tea. But I quite like it since I've always liked green tea flavour.

I wonder if it's available on stores here. I'll definitely buy it if I could find it.

Some of it seem to be quite logical and reflect my feelings.I especially like # 6 and #9 because the song titles correspond to each other . The amazing thing is that part of the lyrics of some songs do match with the question precisely.

#5 ' I'll do whatever it takes, to turn this around'

#7: 'I promise you もう迷わない ;強くなる… あなたに証すよ'
(I promise you,I won't wander off anymore; I'll be strong and prove myself to you.')

#17 'No matter what you say about life, I learn everytime I bleed;
The truth is a stranger, soul is in danger
I gotta let my spirit be free'

This is really random but will spark up a little surprises after doing it.

Mugging time !

My life as a full time book mugger officially begins as I'm off for a study week since last Friday.I'm just glad that I've completed all the lectures and am able to keep myself to most of the lectures so far. Having said that, I will need to focus intensively on Calculus since it's my weakest subject for now. I just can't help but to keep traumatizing myself of how I'll end up staying for a summer course in Vancouver next year if I fail it. So, this is the time I prove to myself that it must not happen.

Dear friends, I really appreciate your trust and the confidence you guys injected to me, when I have uncertainty on my ability to excel. I never really worry working on things individually, keep trying it out until I level up my satisfaction if more time were given to me. It's just saddening when reality clashes with my ideal learning way, I start to qualm. You guys are just being extremely nice to believe on my ability.

Please please, work harder PM!!

On the other hand, I went on my first movie outing in Canada last Friday, for the recently-most-discussed film " Twilight". I'll withhold comments on this movie, but I can sense the fever is heating up here, when I was accompanying my friend to get the books, there were about 3 people getting the full book collection at the same time, I mean, 3 sets of books were sold off within my 15-minute- stay at Chapters.

Alright, I'm going to take a break and resume studying later.=) Take care everyone !

A letter back home

I posted my first letter home this Monday to update everyone at home about my recent condition, especially to my dad because I haven been seeing him for months and I usually talk on the phone with my mom, so I have not seen nor talked to him since he left Vancouver 2 1/2 months ago.To me, nothing beats the sincerity to post letters/cards to someone, because writing letters are time-consuming, but that's how I figure out who will spend their time for me undoubtedly and reveal their problems to me despite their buseee-sy lifestyle.

I bought a booklet of 6 stamps for further postal purpose. The stamps are stickers, which are quite common in westernised countries, perhaps they slowly eliminate and narrow down the usage of glue in their lifestyles. I still prefer adhering stamp to the envelope with glue because that enables me to separate the stamp from envelope when I want to collect that particular stamp. But sticker is annoyingly clung to the envelope and that makes it difficult to insert into the stamp album with its increased thickness.

They actually divided the stamps for international and domestic use here, and it is sold in booklet of 6 stamps. International regular mail costs $1.60.Another thing in Canada is that there are English and French on most of the products, because French is one of the main languages here, but somehow I don't hear much of the natives speak French in Vancouver. My housemate told me that French is more frequently used in some other provinces like Montreal. However, that's still an advantage for me to learn some French words without knowing the pronunciation through the foods and beverages I buy.

Take a look at the Christmas (noël in French) designed stamps!

Finals is near ! Wish me luck friends, while enjoying your holidays.=P
